Our Website Design Process
The below approach highlights the important steps WebScripto follows in creating a website from scratch. Should you already have a registered domain and a registered server not all of the steps will apply. Kindly contact us should you require more information.
SELECT A DOMAIN
CHOOSE A DOMAIN NAME THAT REFLECTS YOUR BUSINESS.
Care should be taken when selecting a domain name (website name). Not only should it reflect your business or message you want to send out, it should extend your brand.
Over and above a website name you should also consider which top level domain (TLD) you are going to use such as .com , co,za, .net, .org or any other. Com is still, after 20 years, one of the most used and recognised TLD’s, and this reflects in Google’s reports year after year. Each TLD has its own meaning e.g. com means commercial whilst .org means organisation. As you will probably know, co.za means South Africa. Should you wish to do business across borders .com is probably your best bet.
If your domain name ( e.g. www.terrafirma.com) is already taken (this happens quite often), it will be OK to append or modify it with a prefix or suffix e.g. www.terra.firma.com, www.terrafirma.southafrica.com or even www.theterrafirma.com.
GET THE DOMAIN REGISTERED
LET’S GET YOUR CHOSEN DOMAIN NAME REGISTERED.
Registering your domain name as soon as possible is important as it will prevent others from using yours. You can do this yourself at the applicable registrar of the specific Top Level Domain you have chosen or you can request WebScripto to do it on your behalf at no additional costs.
We will advise you on the costs of the specific TLD you have selected as they do differ in prices. Their prices depends on the value of the TLD as afforded by Search Engines. Your domain must be re-registered on a yearly basis. You can pay for this on an annual or monthly basis.
We offer a “first-year-free-plan” to our clients who selects the .co.za domain.
SELECT THE CORRECT SERVER
THE CORRECT SERVER AT THE RIGHT PRICE.
Selecting the right server is just as important as a good domain name. There are different types of web servers available, each designed for specific client requirements. If you are starting out a shared (linux) server may be the best way to go. As your business grows you can consider a dedicated server.
A shared server is a massive computer server where a large number of websites are hosted. Although your website’s performance can be affected negatively by heavy traffic to other websites on the shared server it is the most cost effective option for smaller to medium sized businesses. As the company grow the server can be upscaled or upgraded.
GET YOUR SERVER REGISTERED
LET’S GET YOUR WEB SERVER REGISTERED.
In order to make your website available to the public it need to be hosted on a server as referred to above. Now that you have selected the type of server that will be best suited for your business it is time to register it. This can be done at the same time that your domain is registered although not necessary. The two registrations are with separate service providers unless WebScripto does it for you.
WebScripto do offer shared server solutions that can be customised for your unique website. This way we ensure a one-stop service solution which our clients find extremely convenient. We also offer free email accounts (including setup) and fax to email with our server hosting packages.
LET’S MEET AND GET YOUR BRIEF
GETTING TO KNOW YOUR WEB-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS.
This is a very important part of the process and will actually be one of the first steps we take to ensure that we properly understand your specif website needs and requirements. During this phase you will be given a questionnaire to complete. The questionnaire aims to obtain your inputs on every possible aspect of your website. Although we will give advice on practical and designs aspects, your ideas will always be incorporated into your website.
We support the idea of continuous feedback and we will make your website available on one of our development servers for you to view during the design & development process. This will also give you the opportunity to furnish us with further inputs in real-time. You will never be far from your actual growing website.
YOUR WEBSITE ON YOUR SERVER
MIGRATING YOUR APPROVED WEBSITE TO YOUR OWN SERVER.
This is the most exciting part of the project. After building the website according to your specifications as well as webs standards it is ready to be displayed on your own server. We will create a backup of your website and migrate it to your own server. The website will now be ready for its first visitors (other than you and us).
WebScripto will ensure that the migrating process is done properly and that all the links on your website be re-aligned to accommodate the new domain name that was registered for in step 2 above.
RUNNING YOUR WEBSITE EFFORTLESSLY
KEEP YOUR bUSINESS WEBSITE UP AND RUNNING ALL THE TIME.
After all the excitement of having your own website comes the important part to keep it up and running in order to be available to your visitors any time of the day and night. There is nothing worse than a website being unavailable to your customers due to broken codes, out of date software or server errors. This is however a reality that needs immediate action when it occurs.
WebScripto offers a 30 days free support service to its customers after the launch of their website. This will ensure a smooth transition of your website from our servers to yours and allow us the opportunity to rectify any problems that may occur with the website. Clients are always advised to make use of our maintenance packages after the expiration of the 30 days to keep your website secure, safe and up to date.
